Sowore Says He Is Being Punished For Standing Against Corruption

Omoyele Sowore says his latest legal troubles are part of a long-running campaign by people in power to punish him for activism against corruption and injustice. NaijaTrend’s report on his N200m bail is here.

Sowore spoke on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief after his release from Kuje correctional facility, where he had been held in connection with an alleged cybercrime and defamation case.

Daily Post reported that he said he was being punished for standing up for his rights and the rights of others.

Channels TV reported that Sowore traced what he called state intimidation back to his youth, including his activism during military rule and his later student-protest record.

He rejected the idea that the case was simply about the boundary between free speech and criminal defamation, insisting it was politically motivated.

The activist also referred to past arrests, his NYSC certificate dispute and his expulsion from the University of Lagos as examples of what he described as a long pattern of intimidation.
