Police Arrest 46 Over Peter Obi Convoy Blockade In Benue

Benue police have arrested and paraded 46 suspects after the blockade of Peter Obi’s convoy on the Makurdi-Gboko Road, a later development in the incident NaijaTrend previously reported here.

The convoy was stopped on Tuesday as Obi travelled towards Yelewata to visit communities affected by killings in the state. Police Commissioner Cletus Nwadiogbu said on Wednesday that investigators were still tracking key leaders of the youths involved.

Channels Television and Daily Post reported the figure as 46 arrests. Punch reported that the commissioner confirmed key arrests but did not give a number in its account.

Nwadiogbu said the command took what he described as a tactical decision during the blockade to prevent the situation from escalating into violence. He said every Nigerian had the right to freedom of movement and warned against political intolerance ahead of the 2027 elections.

The reports said Obi was safely escorted back to the airport after the roadblock. They did not report any conviction; the police said investigation was continuing and that anyone found culpable would face the law.
