Protesters Block Peter Obi’s Convoy In Benue During Condolence Visit

Protesters stopped Peter Obi’s convoy in Makurdi on Tuesday as the former Anambra governor tried to visit parts of Benue State affected by killings.

The convoy was blocked around the Gboko Road axis near the Nigerian Air Force Base and Makurdi Airport, according to reports on the incident. Traffic was held up while the crowd chanted against Obi’s visit.

Obi said he had gone to Benue to condole with families and communities hit by the violence in the state, not for a campaign event. He accused political actors of using young people for disruption at a time when residents were still dealing with insecurity and loss.

Daily Post also reported that Obi spoke after the incident and said his visit was humanitarian. He linked the blockade to what he described as a decline in the tone of Nigerian politics and called for politics built around unity rather than intimidation.
