PFIPC: Kano Senator Insists On Senate Inquest After Probe Bid Fails

Kano South Senator Kawu Sumaila says the Senate should still conduct its own inquiry into the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council budget allocation, even after the chamber declined to open a separate legislative probe.

The dispute is a new turn in the PFIPC controversy, which NaijaTrend has followed here. The Presidency has described the council as non-existent, while President Bola Tinubu has ordered an ICPC probe.

Daily Trust reported that the Senate rejected Sumaila’s bid for a comprehensive investigation after he raised a point of order during plenary. His motion sought an inquiry into the council’s budgetary allocation, operations and the controversy around its inclusion in the 2026 Appropriation Act.

Sumaila later told journalists that the presidential probe was not enough because the issue affected the integrity of the National Assembly’s budget process. He said lawmakers needed to know how the N1.302bn allocation entered the budget and whether it came from the executive side or from within the legislature.

The senator said his concern was not only whether the council existed, but whether the appropriation process had been compromised.
