Accountant General Says No CBN Account Was Opened For PFIPC

The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation says no Central Bank of Nigeria account was successfully opened for the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, and no public funds have been released to it.

The clarification is the latest turn in the PFIPC controversy, which NaijaTrend earlier reported here after SERAP asked National Assembly leaders to explain the council’s ₦1.3bn allocation.

OAGF spokesperson Bawa Mokwa told Vanguard that the account-opening process was not completed because the required signatories were not provided.

“The CBN account was not successfully opened because there have to be signatories to such an account, which were not provided. As such, no money was paid into the said account,” Mokwa said.

Daily Post also reported that Mokwa denied claims that salaries had been paid to workers of the disputed body. He said PFIPC had not received any money from the Nigerian government.

The council has been at the centre of public scrutiny after reports linked it to a budgetary allocation of about ₦1.3bn, despite the Presidency’s position that the body was not established by the Federal Government.

Mokwa said implementation of the 2026 budget only began in July and that, without a completed account process, no payment could be made to the council.
