Gbajabiamila Files ₦15bn Defamation Suit Against PFIPC’s Adeyemi

Femi Gbajabiamila has filed a ₦15 billion defamation suit against Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew over allegations tied to the disputed PFIPC matter.

The suit, filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, follows earlier demands for Adeyemi to retract claims that Gbajabiamila demanded a 48 per cent kickback from a ₦27.3 billion take-off grant. NaijaTrend’s earlier report on the legal threat is here.

Court filings cited in the reports say the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu is asking for ₦10 billion in general damages, ₦5 billion in aggravated damages and ₦200 million as the cost of the action. He is also seeking an order directing Adeyemi to publish a full retraction and apology in five national newspapers.

Gbajabiamila denied meeting Adeyemi or being involved in any bribery or abuse of office. The filings also ask that any apology be pinned on the online platforms where the disputed claims were allegedly published.

The case is the latest turn in the PFIPC controversy, which has already drawn political questions over the agency’s status and the claims made around its funding.
