Atiku Attacks Tinubu Transport Plan, Demands Cheaper Fuel

Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s latest transport-cost promise, saying Nigerians need cheaper fuel more than new pledges on public transport fares.

The former vice-president’s reaction followed Tinubu’s directive to governors on cheaper transport and additional CNG stations, a plan NaijaTrend reported here. Atiku said the promise was coming too late for households and businesses already hit by high transport and energy costs.

In a statement issued by his media team, Atiku argued that cheaper fuel should translate into cheaper fares and accused the administration of failing to cushion Nigerians after removing petrol subsidy.

Daily Trust reported that the statement described the CNG conversion figures as a weak scorecard for the government, while Daily Post said Atiku linked the transport-cost debate to wider hardship after subsidy removal.

The Presidency and the ruling APC had earlier rejected Atiku’s proposal to bring back petrol subsidy if elected in 2027, describing it as a political gimmick. Atiku has continued to present fuel prices and transport costs as a major campaign issue.
