President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to confirm Lamido Yuguda Abubakar as chairman of the board of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria.

The request was contained in a letter read during plenary on Wednesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Tinubu said the nomination was made under Section 10(1)(a) of the AMCON Establishment Act, 2019, as amended.

The President said Yuguda’s appointment became necessary after the exit of the immediate past chairman of the corporation’s board. He asked the Senate to consider the nomination without delay.

After reading the letter, Akpabio referred the matter to the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions for screening and further legislative work.

The committee is expected to report back to the Senate within two weeks.
