President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate seeking confirmation of Dr Muttaqha Rabe Darma as a Minister of the Federal Republic and Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The requests form part of a minor cabinet reshuffle that saw the exit of Finance Minister Wale Edun and Housing Minister Ahmed Dangiwa earlier this week.

Ministerial Nominee

Darma has been nominated to fill one of the vacancies created by the cabinet changes. Senate President Akpabio read the letter on the Senate floor and referred it to the Committee of the Whole for screening, with a directive to report back as soon as practicable.

CBN Deputy Governor

Yuguda’s nomination as CBN deputy governor was referred to the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, with a one-week deadline to present its report. A former director at the Securities and Exchange Commission, Yuguda brings regulatory experience to a central bank that has been overhauling its operations under Governor Olayemi Cardoso.

Code of Conduct Bureau

In a separate request, the president also sought the reappointment of Barrister Benedict Umeno as a member of the Code of Conduct Bureau, representing the South-East, for a second term. That request was referred to the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption, also with a one-week reporting deadline.
