Tinubu Mourns As Presidential Media Aide Peter Onwubuariri Dies In Kano
President Bola Tinubu has mourned Peter Onwubuariri, a State House media aide and News Agency of Nigeria staff member, who died in Kano after a prolonged illness.
Onwubuariri was 48. His wife, Catherine Ezinna Onwubuariri, confirmed his death, while reports said he had been receiving treatment for about a month at Kano Cancer Centre before he died on Monday.
His remains were released from Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital on Tuesday for burial in Owerri, Imo State. The body was handed over to Oche Egwa, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House, on behalf of presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu described the death as a painful loss to the Presidency, NAN, the media community and the country. Onwubuariri had served at the Presidential Villa since 2014 and worked with the media teams of Presidents Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Tinubu.
Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf also sent condolences to the family. His spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, handled the hospital handover and said the governor recognised Onwubuariri’s work in public communication.
