Tinubu Holds Closed-Door Meeting With Senate Leadership on National Issues
President Bola Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with the extended leadership of the Senate at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, with both sides describing the engagement as strategic and far-reaching.
The Senate delegation was led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and included Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, and Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro. Also present were Senators Orji Uzor Kalu, Adamu Aliero, Danjuma Goje, and Abdul Ningi.
Far-Reaching Decisions
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele confirmed that far-reaching decisions were taken at the meeting, which deliberated on matters of urgent national importance. Specific details of the resolutions were not disclosed.
The meeting came amid escalating security concerns across northern states, with Tinubu having separately summoned his security chiefs to the Villa earlier the same day over the Plateau and Benue killings.
Akpabio Reaffirms Support
Separately, Senate President Akpabio declared the National Assembly “2000 percent” behind Tinubu while representing the president at the commissioning of the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge in Lagos. Akpabio described Tinubu as a “visionary leader on a mission” and cancelled an international engagement to represent him at the event.
The twin events — the Villa meeting and the Lagos commissioning — signal a coordinated effort by the presidency and the legislature to project unity at a time when the administration faces mounting pressure over insecurity and economic challenges.
