Three members of the Edo State House of Assembly have defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, positioning the party to become the main opposition in the state legislature.

Punch reported that NDC chairman Babatunde Olukoga wrote to Speaker Blessing Agbebaku asking the House to acknowledge the defection of the three members.

The defectors are Charity Aiguobarhueghian from Ovia North-East I, Natasha Osawaru from Egor, and Omosigho Frank from Oredo East. Osawaru was nominated as Minority Leader and Frank as Minority Whip.

The Majority Leader, Jonathan Ibhamawu, asked the House to step down the letter, arguing that due process had not been followed since the members should announce their defection first.

Speaker Agbebaku set the letter aside and assured that the requests would be considered once due process was followed.
