Suspected Thugs Invade Ondo Assembly Amid Speaker Impeachment Crisis

Suspected thugs invaded the Ondo State House of Assembly complex on Thursday as lawmakers continued moves linked to the impeachment crisis around Speaker Olamide Oladiji.

The incident caused panic inside the Assembly complex, with staff and lawmakers reporting that the group moved through offices and hallways before security operatives and some lawmakers intervened.

Daily Trust reported that Assembly sources alleged the group came from Ondo town, the Speaker’s constituency. Daily Post reported that the invasion disrupted legislative activity and appeared aimed at intimidating lawmakers and workers.

The reports said normalcy returned after the intervention of lawmakers, including Olajide Oguntodu, and security personnel. Security was later tightened around the complex while some lawmakers continued meetings.

The crisis comes after more than 22 of the 26 Assembly members reportedly signed an impeachment notice against Oladiji. Daily Post said the move was tied to allegations involving N44 million from the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission budget. The allegations remain part of the impeachment dispute and have not been determined by a court.
