Senate Passes Recovered Assets And Legal Practitioners Bills
The Senate has passed bills seeking changes to legal practice regulation and the management of proceeds of crime and recovered assets.
Premium Times reported that lawmakers passed the Legal Practitioners amendment bill and the Proceeds of Crime Recovery amendment bill during plenary. The recovered-assets proposal is aimed at strengthening how assets seized from corruption and other crimes are managed.
Daily Post reported that the Senate also passed a bill to create an agency for the management of recovered assets. Leadership reported the same recovered-assets angle, saying lawmakers backed the proposal after legislative consideration.
The bills will still require further legislative and executive steps before becoming law. If completed, the recovered-assets framework could affect how government agencies handle seized funds, property and other assets.
The development comes as Nigeria continues to face public pressure over transparency, anti-corruption enforcement and the use of recovered public assets.
