Ribadu Meets US Delegation Over Nigeria Security Cooperation

Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has met a United States delegation in Abuja for talks on security cooperation between both countries.

The delegation was led by Frank Garcia, the newly confirmed US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs. Punch reported that the Abuja stop was Garcia’s first visit to Nigeria since he took office on June 1, 2026, and part of a wider West Africa trip covering Côte d’Ivoire and Mali between July 11 and 18.

Ribadu said the meeting reviewed progress under the Nigeria-US Joint Working Group and restated both countries’ commitment to closer dialogue, cooperation and shared security priorities.

Daily Post reported that the talks came as Nigeria continues to face attacks by terrorists, bandits and other criminal groups in several parts of the country.

Punch said Garcia previously served in the US Navy and later worked with the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence before his confirmation to the State Department role.
