Reps Seek Audit Of Recovered Assets Since 1999

The House of Representatives has asked for a comprehensive audit of assets recovered by government institutions since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999.

The motion covers assets seized, forfeited, recovered, managed, disposed of or repatriated by public agencies.

Lawmakers also called for a digital national registry that would allow Nigerians to track recovered assets and reduce gaps in public records.

Punch reported that the motion was sponsored by the member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency of Abia State and was adopted during Tuesday’s plenary.

The House said the audit should address concerns about transparency and accountability in the management of public assets recovered through anti-corruption and related processes.
