Peter Obi Warns Northern Nigeria Hunger Crisis Is Worsening

Peter Obi has warned that northern Nigeria is facing a worsening hunger crisis after a fresh World Food Programme warning on food insecurity in the region.

Punch reported that Obi said more than 17 million people across nine northern states are facing crisis-level hunger, while more than 35 million Nigerians nationwide could be at risk during the lean season.

Daily Post reported the same figures and said Obi described the situation as avoidable, arguing that the North remains one of Nigeria’s key food-producing regions.

Both reports said Obi cited more than 10,000 residents of Borno State as having entered conditions classified as catastrophic hunger.

The former Anambra governor linked the crisis to insecurity, weak leadership and the underuse of fertile land, calling for urgent action to restore food production and protect vulnerable communities.
