Peter Obi and President Bola Tinubu

Peter Obi has backed Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s assessment that President Bola Tinubu has tried his best on insecurity, but said the President now needs to rest.

Obi made the comment in an interview with Chude Jideonwo while reacting to Adeboye’s remarks on the security situation in the country. The former Labour Party presidential candidate said he respected the cleric’s view and agreed that Tinubu had given what he could.

The former Anambra governor used the point to renew his argument that Nigeria needs a different style of leadership ahead of the 2027 elections. He said the country’s security problems require competence, urgency and a government that can restore confidence among citizens.

Vanguard reported that Obi said Adeboye remained a respected religious leader whose assessment should be taken seriously. Punch also reported the same Obi reaction to Adeboye’s comment on Tinubu’s handling of insecurity.

Obi’s remarks add to the wider political debate over insecurity, Tinubu’s record and the opposition’s argument that the country needs a new direction before the next general election.
