Osun Tribunal Row Deepens As Reports Differ On Petitions Against Adeleke

Conflicting accounts have emerged over whether petitions were filed against Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election in Osun State.

One report said the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal displayed petitions by the APC and PDP at its secretariat in Osogbo on Monday. Another report, based on checks at the tribunal registry before the filing window closed, said no petition had been received within the 21 days allowed after the August 15 poll.

The competing accounts leave a fresh question around the legal challenge process after Adeleke, who ran on the Accord platform, was declared winner by INEC with 511,067 votes. His closest challenger, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, polled 444,815 votes.

Daily Post reported that the tribunal displayed two petitions. It said the APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by Oyebamiji and listed Adeleke, Accord and INEC as respondents. It also reported a PDP petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Adeleke, INEC and Accord.

Punch reported earlier that the tribunal had received no petition by the end of the 21-day window. It said a registry official told its correspondent on Saturday that no petition had been received, while an unnamed member of the APC legal team said the party decided not to challenge the result “in the interest of peace”.

The tribunal process is expected to clarify which filings, if any, were properly lodged and served on the parties. Until then, the main development is the sharp difference between the two accounts of the same post-election process.
