Ogun Assembly Clears Former Speaker Oluomo Of Embezzlement Allegation
The Ogun State House of Assembly has cleared former Speaker Olakunle Oluomo of an embezzlement allegation connected to his removal from office in 2024.
The Assembly also resolved to treat his removal as a resignation after adopting the report of the Committee of the Whole House during plenary at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Punch and Premium Times reported that Deputy Speaker Lateefat Ajayi presented the report, which followed a motion Oluomo filed on March 31 asking the House to clear him or provide evidence backing the allegation.
The lawmakers held that the allegation of embezzlement was not contained in the notice of removal served on Oluomo and that available evidence did not establish that he diverted public funds or committed financial misconduct.
The motion to adopt the report was seconded by Yusuf Amosun and approved by voice vote. The Assembly said the decision was taken in the interest of unity among members.
The reversal changes the public record of one of Ogun’s major legislative disputes, but the reports did not say whether any further legal or administrative steps would follow.
