Niger Republic Formally Requests Withdrawal From ICC

Niger Republic has formally submitted a request to withdraw from the International Criminal Court, with the withdrawal set to take effect one year from the date of notification.
Punch, Vanguard and Channels TV all reported the development, citing an AFP wire from the Hague.
The withdrawal request was submitted on June 18, meaning it will take effect on June 18, 2027, unless reversed before then.
Niger’s military leader, General Abdourahamane Tiani, had in September 2025 jointly announced the withdrawal with Mali and Burkina Faso, the three countries then ruled by military juntas following coups.
The ICC has 125 member states. Niger ratified the Rome Statute in 2002 and was one of the first African countries to join the court.
The withdrawal marks a notable shift in West Africa’s relationship with international justice institutions.
