Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, former Inspector-General of Police and Nasarawa SDP governorship candidate

Former Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar Adamu has emerged as the Social Democratic Party candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Nasarawa State.

Reports on the party primary said Adamu replaced Musa Adamu Angba, who withdrew from the race before the substitution exercise. Party delegates affirmed Adamu at a primary held in Keffi on Saturday.

The development gives the SDP a new standard-bearer in Nasarawa after an earlier dispute over the candidate submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission. The latest reports describe the Saturday primary as the party process that produced Adamu for the governorship contest.

Adamu served as Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police between 2019 and 2021. He is now expected to lead the SDP campaign in the state ahead of the 2027 poll, subject to the normal electoral timelines and party submissions.
