Labour Party Names Hajja Bintu Konto As 2027 Running Mate

The Labour Party has unveiled Hajja Bintu Konto as its vice presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

Konto is to run with the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Chibuzo Okereke, after what the party described as consultations with key stakeholders.

The announcement was confirmed in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa. The party said the ticket was chosen to reflect competence, integrity, inclusiveness and public service experience.

Daily Post reported that Konto is a nurse, midwife, health educator and public health specialist with a master’s degree in public health. She has also lectured in community health.

The reports said she serves on the Country Coordinating Mechanism of the Global Fund in Nigeria and is National Treasurer of the Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition.

Her unveiling gives the Labour Party a named presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 race, though the party still faces the wider test of organising its campaign and keeping its support base together before the election season deepens.
