Kwankwaso Says Obi Signed Written One-Term Agreement For 2027
Rabiu Kwankwaso has said Peter Obi signed a written agreement to serve only one four-year term if elected president in 2027.
The comment gives firmer shape to Obi’s one-term pledge and the power-sharing argument around the Nigeria Democratic Congress ticket, where Obi is running for president and Kwankwaso is listed as his running mate.
Kwankwaso said on Channels Television’s Politics Today that the understanding was not only verbal. Vanguard reported that he said the agreement had been put on paper for the party and also between the two politicians.
He said he had no reason to doubt Obi’s promise, adding that he now had more confidence in Obi than he did before the 2023 elections. Channels TV also reported him describing Obi as a dependable politician with Nigeria in mind.
The one-term pledge has become a major talking point ahead of 2027 because it is being presented as a way to return power to the North after four years. The claim is likely to draw more scrutiny from rival parties as campaigns gather pace.
