The chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Oyewole Mayowa Solomon, has died after collapsing during a party reconciliation meeting.

The meeting was held on Friday in Iyara, the headquarters of Ijumu LGA. Reports said Solomon first received medical attention at the venue before he was taken to a hospital in Kabba, where he was confirmed dead.

The meeting was convened by former Ijumu council chairman Funsho Olumoko to reconcile party factions and bring together local government and ward executives, women and youth leaders, political stakeholders and government appointees from the 15 wards in the area.

Daily Trust reported that an earlier session had ended in disagreement over the local party leadership crisis, prompting some stakeholders to walk out. The follow-up meeting was meant to address the dispute before Solomon suddenly collapsed.

The cause of death had not been officially announced in the verified reports. Federal lawmakers from the area, Senator Sunday Karimi and House of Representatives member Salman Idris, mourned Solomon and described him as a committed party organiser in Ijumu and Kogi West.
