INEC Denies Replacing NDC Candidates For 2027 Elections
INEC has denied allegations by the Nigeria Democratic Congress that candidates submitted by the party for the 2027 elections were removed and replaced with unauthorised names.
The dispute centres on State House of Assembly constituencies in Anambra State, where the NDC alleged that names unknown to the party were published as its candidates.
The party’s national chairman, Moses Zuwoghe, accused the commission of listing 10 “strange names” in Anambra and said the party would challenge the matter through legal channels.
INEC’s Chief Press Secretary, Adedayo Oketola, rejected the allegation. He said the commission does not have the legal power to nominate or substitute candidates for political parties.
He said candidates’ names are uploaded through party access to INEC’s nomination portal, adding that a party that disputes a published list should pursue the complaint through the process allowed by law.
