Hardship: Civil Servants Demand 400% Wage Increase

The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council has demanded a 400 per cent increase on the current N70,000 minimum wage, citing mounting hardship facing Nigerian workers.
Vanguard reported that the council made the demand in a communiqué issued at the end of a two-day retreat in Osogbo, Osun State.
The communiqué, signed by Chairman Benjamin Uyanto and Secretary Olowoyo Gbenga, urged governments at all levels to urgently approve and implement the 400 per cent increase.
The council called for new wage negotiations to begin by July 2026, ahead of a scheduled first-quarter 2027 review. It also demanded the implementation of a 40 per cent peculiar allowance.
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke attended the retreat, which brought together representatives of public service workers across the country.
