Fashola Rules Out Presidential Ambition, Says He Is Content With Public Record

Babatunde Fashola has ruled out joining the presidential race, saying he is not interested in contesting for Nigeria’s highest office and is satisfied with the public record he has built.

The former Lagos State governor and former Minister of Works spoke during an interview on TVC on Wednesday, where he pushed back at suggestions that he could seek the presidency.

Asked directly whether he would contest, Fashola answered, “No.” When the question was repeated as a possible bid for President of Nigeria, he joked that he was already “president at home,” according to Punch and Vanguard.

Fashola said history would decide how his service should be judged. He also said he was content with his present life and had no plan to seek the office now.

The comments come as early political positioning continues ahead of the 2027 elections, with parties and senior figures already testing possible alliances and presidential calculations.
