El-Rufai’s Wife Asks Tinubu To Ensure Fair Treatment For Her Husband
Asiya El-Rufai, wife of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has asked President Bola Tinubu to ensure that her husband receives fair treatment while facing prosecution.
She said the family was not asking the President to stop the case, but wanted El-Rufai to have access to medical care, lawyers, family visits and bail on reasonable terms.
Vanguard, Punch, Daily Trust and Arise TV all reported the appeal, which followed renewed concern over El-Rufai’s detention, his health and the arrest of his personal physician, Professor Bello Abubakar.
Asiya said her family supported Tinubu during the 2023 election campaign and expected basic courtesy from the administration, while still accepting that the courts should decide the case.
She said El-Rufai had previously been granted bail on self-recognition by the EFCC and attended proceedings, questioning why bail was now difficult to secure.
Daily Trust and Punch reported that she accused authorities of denying him proper access to doctors, relatives and lawyers. Arise TV reported that she also raised concerns over bail conditions she described as difficult to meet.
Asiya warned that denying basic rights could deepen mistrust in the justice system, and urged the government to allow the legal process to continue without blocking constitutional protections.
