Court Affirms David Mark-Led ADC Leadership, Dismisses Abejide Suit
The Federal High Court in Abuja has affirmed the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress and dismissed a suit challenging Mark and Rauf Aregbesola’s positions in the party.
Justice Musa Liman dismissed the suit filed by House of Representatives member Leke Abejide, holding that the case lacked merit and that the court had no jurisdiction to dabble in the internal affairs of the ADC.
Vanguard and Daily Post reported that the judge upheld preliminary objections filed by the ADC, former national chairman Ralph Nwosu, Mark and Aregbesola.
The court held that Abejide failed to show that his rights were violated by the emergence of the Mark-led leadership and also failed to explore the party’s internal dispute resolution process.
Justice Liman declared that Mark and Aregbesola’s emergence as party leaders was valid under the party’s constitution, the Electoral Act and the party’s rules. The court awarded N2 million each in favour of the defendants against Abejide, and N10 million against his lawyer.
