Court Adjourns Atiku Suit Against Tinubu 2027 Eligibility To September 28
A Federal High Court in Abuja has pushed Atiku Abubakar’s suit challenging President Bola Tinubu’s eligibility for the 2027 election to September 28 after a dispute over service of court papers.
The case did not move into the main arguments on Tuesday. Atiku’s lawyer, Joseph Onu Silas, told the court that the former vice president had not been able to personally serve Tinubu with the originating summons, while counsel who appeared for the president offered to receive the papers in court.
Justice Inyang Ekwo adjourned the matter after Atiku’s counsel insisted that Tinubu’s lawyer should first give a written undertaking that he had authority to accept service on the president’s behalf.
Atiku, who was described in the reports as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, is asking the court to stop Tinubu from contesting in 2027 over claims linked to the name on the president’s NYSC discharge certificate.
Channels TV reported that the suit argues the certificate bears the name Tinubu Bola Adekunle, while the president is known as Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Daily Post reported that the court fixed September 28 to allow Atiku’s side to resolve the service issue.
The court has not ruled on the eligibility claim. The adjournment only keeps the preliminary service question alive before the suit can proceed.
