CBN Says Accountant-General Mandated PFIPC Accounts, As Probe Deepens

The Central Bank of Nigeria has told a House of Representatives committee that it opened two domiciliary accounts for the disputed Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council after receiving authorisation from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

The testimony adds another layer to the PFIPC controversy, which has already drawn questions over the council’s legal status and how it appeared in the 2026 budget. NaijaTrend earlier reported the widening probe here.

Daily Trust reported that a CBN representative gave the account before the House ad hoc committee investigating the legal basis, operations and budgetary inclusion of the council.

The report also said the ICPC questioned Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, over allegations made by Adeniyi Adeyemi, who has presented himself as director-general of the disputed council.

Gbajabiamila has denied the allegations and filed a N15bn defamation suit. Because the matter involves competing claims, NaijaTrend is stating only what the verified report attributes to the committee process, the CBN and the ICPC questioning.
