Atiku Abubakar has warned the Tinubu administration that nothing must happen to Peter Obi or Nasir El-Rufai as political tension builds ahead of 2027.

The warning follows earlier concerns over Obi’s safety and the Presidency’s response to those claims, which NaijaTrend reported here. Obi had also said in an earlier interview that he may not be alive to contest in 2027, reported here.

Daily Trust reported that Atiku spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, and said the safety of opposition leaders is a constitutional duty of the state.

“Nothing must happen to Peter Obi. An injury to one is an injury to all,” Atiku said in the statement reported by Daily Trust and Daily Post.

Daily Post reported that Atiku directed the warning at President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government after Obi’s recent alarm over threats to his life.

Atiku also linked the matter to El-Rufai, saying the former Kaduna governor must not be put at risk because of political disagreement or opposition activity.

The statement keeps the argument over opposition safety in the public eye after the Presidency dismissed Obi’s earlier claims as misleading.
