Atiku Abubakar has asked President Bola Tinubu to explain the N12.8tn Service-Wide Vote in the 2026 budget, saying Nigerians deserve clearer details on how the money will be spent.

The former vice-president singled out a N2.19tn personnel-cost entry under the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning. He questioned why the figure was far higher than the ministry’s listed salaries of N54.8bn.

Atiku said the Service-Wide Vote had become too large and too loosely explained in the national budget. He asked the National Assembly to probe the allocations and publish a full breakdown for Nigerians.

Daily Trust also reported his demand for an explanation from the Presidency, while Vanguard reported his warning that poorly explained budget lines could weaken public trust in federal spending.
