The executive order takes effect on August 31, 2026. It directs the panel to examine what happened during the August 24 violence, identify victims, establish the immediate and remote causes, and determine whether criminal responsibility is linked to the deaths.
The move follows earlier police confirmation of the Ikire shooting and the naming of two civilians who died in the incident. NaijaTrend reported that development here.
Magistrate Ayokunle Shiyanbola was named chairman of the panel, while Abiodun Badiora will serve as secretary. Other members include retired AIG Aderanti Kayode, Dele Akintayo for the Nigerian Bar Association, Wale Balogun for civil society, a community representative from Ikire and Babatunde Afolabi as medical and forensic representative.
The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said the panel is expected to take evidence, review the circumstances of the violence and recommend further action. The order also covers injuries and other violence around the motor park area.
