Nyesom Wike, Rivers State lawmakers and local government chairmen met Governor Siminalayi Fubara at his private residence in Port Harcourt on Sunday evening, October 18.

The closed-door meeting brought together the governor and political figures aligned with the Federal Capital Territory minister after their prolonged dispute over control of Rivers politics.

The delegation included House of Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule, APC governorship candidate Kingsley Chinda and the chairmen of the state’s 23 local government areas.

The agenda and details of the discussions were not made public. Punch and Vanguard, citing sources familiar with the engagement, reported that the talks concerned reconciliation and how Fubara’s supporters could be accommodated in the political arrangement ahead of 2027.

Wike had led an earlier delegation from the Rainbow Coalition to meet the governor. Fubara previously declared support for the coalition and President Bola Tinubu, as NaijaTrend reported here.

The split between Wike and Fubara had also divided the state legislature and produced attempts to impeach the governor. Tinubu declared a state of emergency in March 2025, suspending the governor, his deputy and the assembly members for an initial six months.

Ibok-Ete Ibas served as administrator during that period. The elected officials subsequently returned to office.
