Two people have now been confirmed dead after the collapse of a three-storey student hostel near Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Anambra State, while three injured victims have been rescued and taken to hospital.

The update follows the recovery of a female victim from the rubble and the location of a male victim at Elite Five Star Lodge in Amaokpala, Oko. NaijaTrend had reported the female victim recovery here.

Punch reported that rescue workers recovered the body of another male victim at about 6:55 p.m., bringing the confirmed death toll to two. The building, which housed students and other occupants, collapsed late Sunday night in Orumba North Local Government Area.

Acting Anambra SEMA Executive Secretary Ndidi Omega said one female body had been recovered earlier and three people had been rescued and taken to hospital. Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga said officers secured the scene and joined other agencies in coordinating rescue efforts.

Daily Trust also reported the recovery of the female victim and said rescue officials had located a young man beneath the debris while work continued at the site. The rescue team includes the Nigerian Red Cross Society, NEMA, Anambra SEMA, the state fire service, police and other responders.

The cause of the collapse had not been announced in the reports.
