Rescuers Recover Female Student’s Body From Anambra Hostel Rubble
Rescue officials have recovered the body of a female victim from the rubble of the collapsed student hostel in Oko, Anambra State, as the search for other occupants continues.
The recovery is a new development in the hostel collapse earlier reported by NaijaTrend here.
Daily Post reported that the victim was believed to be a student in the three-storey hostel at Amokpala, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area. The report said officials also located the body of a young man, also believed to be a student, but had not yet retrieved it from beneath the debris.
Channels TV reported the same recovery at Elite Five Star Lodge and said emergency work had intensified at the scene. The building collapsed late Sunday night and was believed to have housed students and other occupants.
The rescue team includes the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the National Emergency Management Agency, Anambra SEMA, the state fire service, police, other security agencies and Operation Udo Ga-Achi operatives.
Officials were using heavy equipment to remove debris carefully while keeping the area sealed off. Acting SEMA Executive Secretary Ndidi Omega said three injured persons had earlier been taken to hospital and that the search would continue until the site had been fully checked.
Authorities had not announced the cause of the collapse at the time of the reports.
