A group of 180 Nigerians returned from Sebha, Libya, on Tuesday, arriving at the cargo terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said in a statement on the reception that the group landed at about 4.20pm aboard an Air Buraq Airlines flight.

The returnees received food, drinking water, medical screening and counselling. Ambulance services were available for those who needed medical attention, the agency said.

There were 143 adults, 26 children and 11 infants in the group. The adults comprised 75 men and 68 women.

The return was organised through the Assisted Voluntary Return programme, coordinated by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) with the federal government.

NEMA’s Lagos Operations Office received the group alongside the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons. Nigeria Immigration Service officers carried out biometric registration and documentation.

The agency said it also provided reintegration support to help the returnees get back to their communities.
