President Bola Tinubu has directed security chiefs to intensify efforts to rescue abducted people and dismantle terrorist and bandit camps across Nigeria, Defence Minister Christopher Musa has said.

The President also asked security agencies to provide a safe environment for the 2027 elections. Musa announced the directives after Tinubu met the heads of security agencies at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.

“There shouldn’t be any camp of any terrorists or bandits anywhere in Nigeria,” Musa said, according to Punch.

He said Tinubu wanted free, fair and credible elections and pledged that security personnel would remain neutral. The minister said political parties and candidates should be able to participate without intimidation.

Musa also said the government was strengthening security agencies through recruitment, training and equipment purchases. Punch quoted him as saying the President would soon inaugurate about 10 newly acquired aircraft and helicopters.

The minister pointed to the recent salary increase for armed forces personnel and said the welfare of the police, other security agencies and pensioners was also receiving attention.

He urged Nigerians to report suspicious activities and misconduct by security personnel, saying complaints about wrongdoing would be acted upon.
