Atiku Abubakar has challenged President Bola Tinubu to account for his administration’s economic record after the president blamed opposition politicians for hunger and poverty at his campaign launch in Kaduna.

The former vice president, who is the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, said Tinubu could not dismiss complaints about hardship by blaming political opponents. His response was issued through Phrank Shaibu, director of strategic communication for the ADC Presidential Campaign Council.

“Mr President, blaming the opposition for hunger is either delusion or a staggering case of political amnesia,” Atiku said in the statement, according to Channels Television and Daily Trust.

He argued that the APC had governed for eight years before Tinubu took office and said the current administration should answer for its own policies.

Tinubu made the remarks at the APC campaign flag-off on Saturday, October 24. He accused the opposition of creating hunger and poverty and defended the removal of petrol subsidy, arguing that the previous system encouraged corruption and fuel smuggling. NaijaTrend reported the campaign launch here.

Atiku questioned the effects of subsidy removal and the weakening of the naira. He also called on the government to explain energy-security and pipeline-related spending and the gaps he alleged in Nigeria’s external accounts. He asked it to disclose who received the money and what was delivered.

He criticised the planned inauguration of a section of the Abuja–Kaduna Expressway, alleging that it remained unfinished. “A road cannot be completed with a speech or a ribbon cutting ceremony,” he said, according to Channels Television.

Atiku said voters would judge the administration by their living conditions when they go to the polls in 2027. “The people will judge your government by the lives they are living, not by the excuses you offer at campaign rallies,” the statement said.
