Rainstorm Destroys Over 20 Houses And Farmlands In Plateau Community

A rainstorm has destroyed more than 20 houses and several farmlands in Nghassi community, Mandar Ward, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The storm happened around 5 p.m. on Tuesday and left several families displaced. Residents said strong winds blew off rooftops, uprooted trees, damaged buildings and destroyed property worth millions of naira.
A community member, Bulus Ritji, said no death was recorded but many residents lost homes, food items, clothing and other valuables. He said affected families were taking temporary shelter with neighbours and relatives.
Christopher Luka, the youth leader of Bokkos Local Government Area, appealed to the Plateau State Government, NEMA, PLASEMA and humanitarian groups to provide relief materials and temporary shelter.
The damage to farmlands has raised concerns about livelihoods in the community, with residents asking for quick support before the hardship worsens.
