Plateau Imposes Curfew In Three LGAs After Kassa Killings
Plateau State has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu after fresh killings in Kassa community added to days of violence across parts of the state.
The order follows the earlier Plateau attacks covered here. Daily Trust reported that five herders were killed on Sunday evening while moving cattle from Bokkos to Jos South, while Channels Television separately reported the state government’s curfew order for the three local government areas.
Daily Trust named the deceased as Buhari Yusuf, Aminu Ahmad, Nasiru Abdullahi, Gambo Abubakar and Muhammad Abdul Rahman. It said gunmen opened fire on a J5 vehicle around 3pm, killing the men and cattle, while two other occupants were injured and taken to hospital.
The report said the victims were buried on Monday at the Muslim Cemetery in Bokkos. It also said Lt. Col. Luke Adejo of Operation Enduring Peace urged the herding community not to retaliate, while MACBAN state chairman Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo asked security forces to investigate and act against those responsible.
Channels Television reported that the Plateau government announced the curfew with immediate effect, saying it was meant to protect lives, maintain public order and give security agencies room to stabilise the affected areas.
