Police Arrest 31 Suspects In Abia Hideout Raids

Police in Abia State say 31 suspects have been arrested during raids on suspected criminal hideouts in parts of Umuahia.

The state police command said the operation targeted the Mission Hill/New Road axis, popularly called Down Below, and another area in Amuzukwu. It said substances suspected to be illicit drugs were recovered.

Daily Post reported that the suspects included 30 men and one woman. Punch also reported the arrests, citing a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa.

The command said officers revisited the locations on July 1 after further intelligence and found makeshift camps allegedly used as criminal hideouts and drug bunkering points. Eight tents and camps made with sticks and tarpaulin were destroyed.

Police said the suspects had been charged to court and remanded in custody. The commissioner urged residents to share credible information with the nearest police station.
