Minor Fire Hits Abuja Idu Train Station, Operations Continue
A minor fire damaged electrical installations at Abuja’s Idu Train Station on Wednesday evening, but the Nigerian Railway Corporation said train services continued as scheduled.
The NRC said no life was lost and passengers were not injured. It said the fire affected the station’s low-voltage electrical room and was contained by maintenance personnel.
Daily Post and Channels Television reported the corporation’s explanation that the incident was caused by an electrical fault. Vanguard reported that a technical team was still assessing the affected installations and that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company had been contacted for support.
The corporation said power had been temporarily restored to the lifts and escalators, with five of the six facilities working. It also said the station’s alternative solar power system was not affected.
Idu is one of the main stops on the Abuja-Kaduna rail route, so the incident drew concern even though operations continued. The NRC said scheduled services would go on while repairs and further checks were carried out.
