US Sends Fresh Military Equipment To Nigeria Under Arms Deal
The United States has delivered a fresh consignment of military equipment to the Nigerian Air Force under an arms-sales arrangement aimed at supporting counter-terrorism operations.
The shipment arrived on a US Air Force C-17 aircraft over the weekend, according to the United States Africa Command. AFRICOM said the delivery was part of a foreign military sales agreement between Washington and Abuja.
The command did not disclose the type or value of the equipment. It said the consignment was meant to strengthen the US-Nigeria security partnership and help Nigeria respond to terrorism and other security threats.
Daily Trust reported that the delivery comes after a recent period of tighter security engagement between both countries. Punch also reported AFRICOM’s statement that the equipment was delivered directly to the Nigerian Air Force.
Nigeria has continued to seek foreign military cooperation as security forces confront insurgency, terrorism and other armed threats in different parts of the country.
