Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has opened the South-East phase of the National Community Food Bank Programme in Anambra State.

The launch took place in Awka on Thursday, with the programme presented as a support scheme for vulnerable households and communities facing pressure from food costs.

Anambra Governor Charles Soludo attended the event, alongside state and federal officials. The reports said the food bank is part of a wider social-support push linked to the First Lady’s office and the Renewed Hope Initiative.

Vanguard and Punch both reported that the Anambra launch covered the South-East geopolitical zone and was framed around food security, community support and relief for low-income families.

The programme comes as households continue to face high food prices across the country. Officials at the launch said the food bank model is meant to strengthen local distribution of basic food support rather than operate only as a one-off donation.
