Oshoala Goal Gives Super Falcons 1-0 WAFCON Win Over Zambia
Nigeria’s Super Falcons are back in contention at WAFCON 2026 after a 1-0 win over Zambia in their second Group C match.
Asisat Oshoala scored the only goal in the eighth minute, giving Nigeria a needed response after the earlier 3-2 defeat to Malawi. Vanguard, Daily Trust and Premium Times all reported the same scoreline and the early Oshoala goal.
The match tightened after defender Oluwatosin Demehin was sent off before half-time. Daily Trust reported that Nigeria played more than 50 minutes with 10 players, while Premium Times said Chiamaka Nnadozie and the defence held off Zambia’s late pressure.
The result moved Nigeria to three points in the group. The Super Falcons are now due to face Egypt in their final group match on Wednesday, August 5, with a quarter-final place still at stake.
For Nigeria, the win also eased pressure on coach Justin Madugu’s side after a poor start to the tournament. Oshoala’s early finish and the team’s second-half defending kept the campaign alive.
