CAF annuls Edo Queens WAFU-B final win, orders extra time
CAF has annulled Edo Queens’ WAFU-B final win over Ampem Darkoa Ladies and ordered the match to resume from extra time.
The Nigerian champions had beaten the Ghanaian side 4-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in Ouagadougou on September 5, but CAF ruled that the shootout should not have started because the final required 30 minutes of extra time first.
Premium Times reported that CAF’s Organising Committee for Women’s Football upheld a protest filed by the Ghana Football Association on behalf of Ampem Darkoa. The committee said moving straight from the 2-2 scoreline after 90 minutes to penalties breached the competition rules.
CAF ordered the final to restart at 2-2 from the beginning of extra time. The teams will play two 15-minute periods, and a new penalty shootout will be used only if the score remains level after extra time.
Punch reported that the original penalty win had appeared to give Edo Queens the WAFU-B title and a place at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League. The representative from the zone is now undecided until the resumed final is completed.
