NPFL Champions To Earn ₦1bn As NSC, NFF Announce Reforms

The winners of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season are set to receive ₦1 billion under a reform package announced by the National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Football Federation.

Premium Times and Daily Post both reported the ₦1 billion champions’ prize after a meeting involving NSC leadership and the NFF in Abuja. Premium Times cited NSC chairman Shehu Dikko as saying the move is part of a wider plan to improve Nigerian football.

The two reports differ on the proposed lower-position rewards. Premium Times reported that the runners-up would receive ₦500 million and the third-placed club ₦300 million, subject to final confirmation by league authorities.

Daily Post reported higher figures, saying the runners-up would receive ₦800 million and the third-placed team ₦700 million. Because of that discrepancy, the lower-prize figures should be treated as unsettled until the league authorities publish the final schedule.

Daily Post also reported that a minimum monthly salary of ₦2 million for NPFL players has been approved by the NSC.

Premium Times reported that Dikko linked the reforms to improved player welfare, better league organisation and stronger domestic football structures.

The new champions’ prize would be a major increase from recent seasons. Daily Post noted that Enugu Rangers received ₦150 million for winning the title last season, while Remo Stars previously earned ₦100 million.
